This month five promising and innovative Korean startups will be showcased at Sonar+D event. The startups have been preselected and supported by Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA), an organization that promotes the Korean creative industry. Most people are familiar with South Korean giants like Samsung, LG and Hyundai, but the next batch of startups is ready to disrupt international markets starting in Barcelona. Let’s have a look:
COOLJAMM Company Inc.
COOLJAM developed HumOn. With HumOn, a hopeful composer can create a new song simply by humming. Whenever a composer comes up with a musical tune and tries to hum it, the melody will be transformed into a full musical interlude. Whether on the street, at home, or in a public place, you can make music with your hummed voice anytime. COOLJAMM’s vision is to let music lovers’ realize the dream of composing music with their mobile apps. HumOn was officially spun-off from Samsung Electronics 6 based on the excellent MIR (Music Information Retrieval) technology.
Impressivo Korea
Impressivo developed Faiv, a solution that can detect several input gestures as well as level and direction of force. This creates input systems that are intuitive and easy. They also design apps for the automotive, extreme sports, smart wearables, sportswear and other industry. The company’s aim is to enhance how people interact with new digital devices such as wearables, IoT, VR, connected cars and other smart devices. Their interface kit enables companies to add fabric-based 3D touch interfaces into their products easily and quickly. Faiv develops fabric-based natural user interface (NUI) solution for diverse industries ranging from smart wearable to automotive.
m. Lab
m. Lab developed and designed mSTUV. It’s an all-in-one video streaming platform where viewers can explore interesting tags while watching videos without interrupting their experience. Viewers can also shop and search at the same time. The interactive platform creating company visualizes trending comments called “Tag” on the video’s timeline to provide all kinds of information to users. Through the these tags, users can find out more information about a specific scene or items that appear in the video. Thanks to accumulated meta data from users, the tags connect them with their favorable services and popular products.
Vault Micro
Vault Micro developed CameraFi Live. It is an Android application for real time live streaming on YouTube, Facebook, USTREAM and Wowza that can connect external cameras to a smartphone. Another technology developed by the company is CameraFi: S/W, a platform that connects USB/Wi-Fi cameras to a smartphone. These apps can be used for livestreaming, healthcare, industrial, automotive and sports industries. CameraFi turned into the leading USB camera connectivity technology due to 4 major features: no rooting, ability to connect usb cameras, high compatibility and fast processing speed. Vault Micro is a software specialized company that develops device driver and management software.
XrisP
XrisP developed Smart NORI RC CAR. It can access the internet via embedded wi-fi routers. Even when at work or travelling, it allows users to connect and control RC cars by smart phone in a distance. Xrisp’s mission is to create a group that can provide links to content, hardware and software. XrisP is creating animation contents (Rollercoaster Boy, Nori, Panda Wang), hardware (Nori Smart RC Car, Nori 4DX racer) and software (Showcola) and currently in cooperation with New Zealand post-sound company “POW!” and the Chinese film company “HENAN YORK”.
The 5 Korean startups mentioned above are joining the Sonar+D event to get closer to costumers in Europe. The event will be held in Fira Montjuïc from 14th to 16th of June. Sónar+D is the international conference that brings together a combination of activities with a common theme: the relationship between creativity and technology, and the digital transformation of the cultural industries involved. It is a three-day congress dedicated to Creativity, Technology and Business running concurrently with Sónar which is an electronic and advanced music festival.
With the expectation of opportunities in the European Market, KOCCA will participate in Sonar+D with five Korean startups in Barcelona this June. KOCCA is the main governmental organization which supports the growth of these startups and is South Korea’s leading government agency that oversees the advancement of Korean creative content, both domestically and internationally. KOCCA actively advances Korean content via production support, marketing and promotion, global expansion abroad, human capital development, and cultural technology implementation.
This collaboration is also accompanied by Kakao, Korea’s leading mobile platform that aims to connect everything through various business such as communication service, media, content, online to offline service and fintech.
