One of the startups that impressed a lot of people at this years 4YFN was Hu:toma, who builds emotionally evolved artificial intelligence for both personal and business use.
I don’t think I saw any stands at the event as crowded as Hu:toma’s, but luckily one of the two Italian brothers and co-founders Andrea Cibelli found time to chat with Barcinno.
Training your own AI
One of the really cool features with Hu:toma’s AI is that you can teach and train it by feeding it examples
of conversations (movie scripts, support logs. etc).
They have also implemented an internal mechanism to simulate emotional states which is supposed to make the AI feel more natural.
Other competing companyies is more focused on manually feeding the AI to create a language, and not automating it through the machine itself.
Obviously co-founder Cibelli, believes that AI will become a huge part of our lives, only few years into the future.
However, he and many other scholars on the matter, explains how we need more computing power to make it happen.
“When we have the right computers with enough power, this market will grow very quickly, and Hu:toma is and will be a big part of that”, the CTO explains.
Looking for funding
Artificial Intelligence has long been one of the really hot topics in tech, and the interest seems to only grow bigger by the months.
The last years VC’s has invested heavily in AI, and both Google, Facebook, Apple and Microsoft has bought AI companies.
The startup is now looking for funding after they’ll soon be finished with Startupbootcamps IoT acceleration program in Barcelona, where they have worked out of the Media Tic building.
“The API is ready, and we will launch the product sometime this year”, Cibelli explains.
Pay-per-question business model
Because Hu:toma both want to play in the B2B and the B2C market, they are looking at different types of business models
Initially they will charge a small amount per question asked to the AI, or a monthly fee.
Even though a lot of successful European startups look to the US, Hu:toma wants to stay in Europe.
“We’re moving to London, we think that will be great for business, especially in terms of investors”, says Cibelli.
