The on demand delivery garden has been growing constantly over the last years, with Glovo as one of the biggest players in Barcelona, promising to deliver anything to your doorstep within an hour.
The last time we talked about Glovo, they had just picked up €2 million in funding, and now they’re expanding.
According to Techcrunch, Glovo acquired Italian food-delivery startup Foodinho, to start their expansion into Italy.
Cigarettes and alcohol
In Barcelona the market for on-demand food delivery is extremely crowded, as companies like Foodora, Deliveroo, Take-Eat-Easy and Resto-in are flooding the city with discount flyers and filling both bus- and subway billboards with ads.
Barcelona-born Glovo however, is some ways above the competition as they offer to deliver anything, not only food.
One of the co-founders of Glovo, Sacha Michaud said in an early interview that they have delivered anything from clothes, to alcohol, cigarettes, late night pharmacy merchandise and off course food.
After the acquisition of Foodinho, Glovo will be operating in Milan, Barcelona, Madrid and Valencia.
Going for Paris
The deal with Foodinho was a cash-acquisition, and Glovo’s CEO and co-founder Oscar Pierre told Techcrunch that he was more than happy with the outcome.
“We know Italy is a great opportunity for us and we aim to become the leader on this market”.
The next big city for Glovo’s expansion is Paris, according to the co-founder.
