Ursulitas, the Barcelona e-commerce startup making the first medium heeled shoe, recently got funded.
I got to admit that I’ve never worn a high-heeled shoe, and probably never will, but you don’t need a PhD to understand that walking on high heeles every day from 09.00-18.00 is everything but comfortable.
The company has gone through the Connector accelerator, and it is through Connector’s connections some of the recent funding comes from.
Throughout the program Ursulitas had five mentors, Carlos Blanco, (Nuclio), Marc Ros (Aftershare), David Thomas, (Cyberclick) and Esther Palormar (CaixaBank). Through these mentors and other investors the startup raised €110.000 in it’s first ever round of investment.
Expanding
The latest funding will be used to consolidate the Spanish market, and expand to France, UK and Italy.
With the objective to offer all women high heeled shoes, without sacrificing a busy lifestyle, Ursulitas plans to open physical stores next year.
The CEO and founder Ursula Ponce plans to raise another round of funding before going physical in 2017.
Ponce, an ESADE Alumni, is a computer engineer, but turned her career around, working with consulting. It was as a consultant that Ponce got hear idea of making a better high heeled shoe for active women.
Strong sales-numbers
All the shoes are handmade in Spain, more specifically in Elda, Alicante, and designed in Barcelona, in other words 100% Spanish, a fact the startup is very proud of.
The e-commerce has been in business for one year.
In this year Ursulitas sold shoes for over €100.000 in 2015, and expect to sell around €600.000 worth of shoes by 2016.
The Barcelona based startup initially launched Ursulitas with 75.000 in funding.
