Better Know A Barcelona Startup: GetYourHero

For those of you who don’t know me, I’m a bit of a clean freak. To the point where a room full of dirty laundry and a sink overflowing with crusty dishes is enough to send me over the edge. Given that cleaning isn’t topping the list of my most loved pastimes, finding a cleaner has been on my To-do list for as long as I can remember. The problem with allowing some random into your house is that in order for you to feel conformable, you need some kind of foundation of trust, which more often that not comes though a recommendation or positive past experiences. The last thing you want is to haphazardly pick a name off Craigslist to find your prized belongings missing when you get home. We’ve all heard the horror stories!

Enter GetYourHero, a Barcelona startup leading the cleaning revolution in Southern Europe. Contending with the likes of heavily funded Homejoy and most recently Rocket backed Helpling, GetYourHero, which is the first cleaning platform in Spain, takes the stress out of ordering a cleaner by connecting you with a selection of professional and ‘legal’ cleaners in the city. By legal, we mean cleaners who pay their taxes. Apart from being a plus for your business, you are also given the guarantee that the cleaner you’re contracting is going to actually clean your apartment/office space well.

Founders Henrik Beckmann, Sebastian Gmelin and Sebastian Janus realized that the Southern European market was ripe for picking after spending over a year here and finding it hard to get a reliable and trustworthy cleaner. “When we arrived to Barcelona we realized it was very difficult to find someone to clean our house, a professional cleaner with an employment contract and adapted to our schedule. Also like any young people we usually book and pay almost everything through our Smartphones” says Managing Director, Henrik.

As you’d imagine, the booking service is extremely simple. Within 3 clicks you have your cleaner booked. Simply choose the date, time and service you are looking for and as if it was by magic, you will have a cleaner at your door at the required time. “We offer a professional, fast, legal and reliable service: that’s is our claim” adds Henrik. The mobile version feel likes a standalone app with an intuitive and simple UI however Henrik tells us that the native apps will be on the way at some point soon.

With the model already highly successful in the US and Northern Europe (Rocket are very careful about the models they select to clone), Henrik believes that it will be a perfect fit for new consumer habits in Spain.

The founders, all German entrepreneurs, met earlier this year at a conference on funnily enough, entrepreneurship. They have just closed a second funding round to help ramp up operations and to further positions themselves in Southern Europe. “We are already operating in Barcelona, Madrid and Milan and will be opening in other Spanish and Italian cities soon. Southern Europe is the area where the home cleaning sector is booming, so soon we will expand our business to other cities in the region. The next step after new areas will be the expansion to other service verticals like plumbing and babysitting.”
