5 Startup Podcasts That Will Make You Smarter

Music is a dear friend while traveling to work, whether you drive, take the subway, bicycles or use your legs. But what if I told you, that I could make that route to work even better with a podcast?

The podcast industry (if you can call it a industry) is growing rapidly, and there is tons of great podcast related to startups, entrepreneurs and innovation. So instead of having to read up about everything going on in tech every day, using precious time, you can plug into the newest podcast, learning valuable lessons made from successful people all around the globe.

Listed under is some of the podcasts I think can make your commute to work/cooking/doing the dishes, or another part of your day a bit better.

1. “This week in startups”

The former entreprenuer that became an investor, Jason Calacanis gives you the biggest names in the industry. From Ubers Travis Kalanick to Gary Waynerchuk to David Sacks (PayPal). Do you or your team need motivation or new strategies, this could be a place to get it, for free!

2. “StartUp”

If you are thinking about starting a business or a startup, this is podcast for you. The former famous radio-host from This American Life and now the entrepreneur of the podcast-business Gimlet, Alex Blumberg, is taking us on a journey. From the idea of a business to actually setting the idea to life and then managing it day to day. For the first time ever, we get to witness what so many people are doing every day, starting a business. The ups and downs, the victories and the big failures all told in a beautiful way by some of the world’s best storytellers.

Season one is about Blumberg who is starting his own podcasting business Gimlet. Season two is about a company called Datingring, who looks to revolutionize dating forever (Y combinator startup) and season three is in the making.

3. “The pitch”

The name pretty much speaks for itself. Startups are pitching their business idea for investors, angels and mentors, which again gives the entrepreneurs feedback and tells them if they would like to take another meeting or invest in the company. It also one of the startup podcasts that not only focus on startups that already are successful, but on people who are on their way or in the struggle for success.

It is a great podcast for improving your pitching skills and great place to learn what some of the world’s most important investors look for in a company.

4. “Startup Grind”

Startup Grind is one of the first really good podcasts in the startup universe. After launching in 2010 they have interviewed over 1.000 entrepreneurs and innovators that have made a name for themself and had success. As you may or probably know, Startup Grind is much more than a podcast, it’s a huge community with weekly events all over the globe, included Spain, and don’t forget to visit their website with a lot of content to help Startups in their search for success.

5. “Entrepreneur on fire”

Its much better to learn from other peoples failures, than your own. In the podcast Entrepreneur on fire, the host John Leed Dumas ask some of the world’s most famous entrepreneurs about their biggest failures ever.

But it is not only failures and flaws, it is also a lot of good advice from over the 700 entrepreneurs Dumas has interviewed over the years. One of the elements that makes Entrepreneur On Fire different from other startup podcasts, it the format. It has a great start with the “whats your biggest failure” question, moves on to great content, and then finishes of with five quick questions to sum up the episode. It works great, and it is worth checking out.
