Zuckerberg defended Apple At The MWC16: “We believe in encryption”

Although Facebook issued a statement of support for Apple’s feud with the FBI over their insistence to create a backdoor into iOS for security reasons, the man himself, Mark Zuckerberg, had not commented the issue yet.

But during his keynote at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, he came to Apple’s defense.

“We’re sympathetic with Apple on this one. We do believe in encryption”, he told the hundreds of people at the event.

Want to help fight terror

Even though Zuckerberg sympathizes with Apple, they still underline that they want to help authorities catch terrorists and other dangerous people, using Facebook.

“We feel like we have big responsibility, and we have strict policies if someone uses Facebook to share and promote terrorism or for example sympathizing with ISIS. Such people will be thrown out of the service”, he said.

So it’s pretty clear that Zuckerberg is walking on a thin line in terms of helping/resisting government interaction at their service.

Video, video, video 

Other than supporting their competitors, the Facebook founder talked a lot about video.

“Quickly the content on Facebook is turning more and more into video, and this is happening extremely fast”, he said.

He emphasized how Facebook will be in the front this video-trend, focusing heavily on VR and Live streaming.

“We already have one million people watching VR movies on Facebook every day. This will catch on fast, and the same with live streaming. I believe these video trends will make it easier to connect with family, friends and business in a much better way”, Zuckerberg explained.

He went on to explaining how his mother captured his first steps with words in a book, his sister captured his niese with a mobile camera, and himself will most likely capture his own daughters first steps in VR, and maybe live to friends and family.

With these video trends, he underlined how important it is that 5G becomes available as possible, and that people in developing countries get 4G coverage.
