Barcelona based Bidaway, a bidding startup that offers untraditional prizes such as signed Messi football shoes or what they call unrepeatable experiences, just closed a round of 1.5 million.
The latest round was led by Mundi Ventures. Several business angels invested in this last round including ex-basketball player gone investor Ferrán Martínez.
Bidaway started out as a bidding company for luxury travels and was called the Ebay of travel by The Next Web a couple of years ago. However, the company has tilted their aim, and are now offering several prizes and offers.

Do you have a celebrity idol?
For those of you that have one, examples of Bidaway prizes include dining with the best chef in the world, spending a day with your celebrity idol at the Rio Olympics or getting a signed pair of gloves from FCBarcelona keeper Claudio Bravo.
They also offer the opportunity to bid on hotels, cruises, holiday packages, nights out, sporting events and concerts, all in real-time.
Bidaway is playing the celebrity card on more than prizes. Famous Barcelona celebrities have chosen different causes where bidders can either donate themselves (and get something in return) or where part of the earnings from the biddings goes to the cause.
And when you think that there isn’t any more celebrity related news related to Bidaway, the company claims to have several, well-known famous investors, without telling us who.
500 Startups
The business model is quite simple. Bidaway shares the earnings from the auctions with their partners, where the startup takes 20 percent, and the partner takes the rest.
Founded in Barcelona, Bidaway founder and CEO Luca Carlucci moved to San Francisco to join the 500 Startups accelerator back in 2014.
Right now the company is working in Spain, but they’re expanding to the US soon with the launch of their new bidding app.
