Creating The Next Generation Of Mobile Startups At The Kairos Mobile Summit

There’s something comforting when you first learn about the Kairos Society for young entrepreneurs.  Perhaps it’s the fact that they’re building a global alliance of the smartest young minds all working towards solving the world’s largest problems.  Even more encouraging is when you start reading about the caliber of the entrepreneurs within their ranks.  Founded at the University of Pennsylvania in 2008, by then 18-year old undergrad Ankur Jain, the Kairos Society is the international nonprofit organization of entrepreneurs and innovators under the age of 25.  In just 5 years, Kairos has spread to more than 100 universities in over 54 countries with the mission to advance the world through entrepreneurship and innovation.

With such a broad scope and global ambition, Kairos operates through a decentralized network of student ambassadors from universities around the world.  It’s through this network of highly-motivated young ambassadors that Kairos has been able attract talent, investors and an army of accomplished mentors committed to helping members be successful on what is typically their first real taste of entrepreneurship.  Today, Kairos counts Johnson&Johnson, Cisco, GE, Autodesk and American Airlines as their partners and proud sponsors.

Barcinno had the opportunity to sit down with Kairos’ Spanish president Alex Lopera to learn more about their global initiatives including their first ever European Mobile Summit taking place in Barcelona on October 18-19, 2013.

The Kairos Mobile Summit is designed to identify the next generation of mobile entrepreneurs and accelerate their cutting-edge mobile ventures.  The two-day event will focus on maximizing the massive potential of mobile technology through the Mobile Innovation hackathon and a Mobile Demo Day where innovative mobile startups will pitch their plans for tackling big global challenges.  The event will be held at Telefonica’s Mobile World Centre in Plaça Catalunya and where the chosen startup teams will be selected to attend the 2014 Mobile World Congress on behalf of the Kairos Society.

So far, the following 4 startups are already confirmed to compete for the grand prize: Immudicon – Riley Ennis (Thiel Fellow), Regalii – Iñigo Rumayor (Finalists TechCrunch Disrupt San Francisco 2013), Life Patch – Miles Bird, and Wellframe – Archit Bhise.  However, the application process is still open for more startups to apply.
