Marfeel, the Catalonia startup optimizing online publications on mobile devices, announced today the closing of their Series A round of $2 million led by Nauta Capital. Also included in the fundraising round are BDMI (Bertelsmann), Elaia Partners, and existing investor Wayra (Telefonica).
Marfeel, founded in 2011 by Xavi Beumala and Juan Margenat, changes the way we experience traditional websites on tablets and smartphones. The explosion of mobile devices into the world left the web-based browsing experience struggling to catch up and adapt to the new platforms. This led to frustrating usability issues and a generally ugly experience browsing the web on tablets.
Xavi, a former technical architect at Adobe Systems in the Bay Area, created a way to seamlessly adapt web publications onto mobile devices for a beautiful browsing experience. And beautiful it is. Marfeel automatically turns any content-focused website into the best browsing experience on tablets and smartphones. No apps, No plugins, no effort – just the best touch experience ever.
Marfeel already counts Spain’s largest online publications as clients, including Cinco Dias, Expansion, El Periodico and has collected more than 100 million page views from over 4 million readers. They have been collecting awards in Spain, including best in class SeedRocket startup 2011, winners of the TechCrunch Barcelona MeetUp, and are currently in Amsterdam this week as one of the 16 finalists of The Next Web Startup Rally.
The new capital will be invested into their product and used to build their sales and marketing teams for international expansion. Another big win for job creation by local startups!
