For the next 30 days, the latest in Barcelona innovation and design will be on display during the Barcelona Design Festival 2013. Co-organized by Barcelona Centre de Disseny (BCD) and Fostering Arts and Design in Catalonia (FAD), the 3rd annual Barcelona Design Festival “aims to situate Barcelona as a world capital of design and innovation internationally.” The month long event centers around 2 main initiatives: the Barcelona Design Week (today – June 21) and FADfest (June 25 – July 11)
The Barcelona Design Week is the international event focused on maximizing the potential of innovation and design to anyone who uses knowledge and creativity in their professional or personal lives. This is the 8th edition of the Barcelona Design Week and 2013’s theme of Design Vision 2050 strives to find solutions for the challenges we will face in the coming decades through innovation and design. Almost 70 activities are scheduled from today through June 21st including workshops, creative discussion forums, exhibitions, and interactive experiments. Right on the heels of Barcelona Design Week, FADfest comes to life for two straight weeks celebrating the best-in-class designers in advertising, graphic design, jewelry, interior design, art, fashion, and architecture. With more than 110 years of history and experience, FAD was the first organization in Catalonia to commit resources to the advancement of design, architecture, and creative culture. More than 1500 members are striving to stimulate innovation through design with partnerships with business, universities, and international organizations. The finalists of this year’s FADfest will be featured all summer long during the FADexpo located in their headquarters in Plaça dels Angels.
