Barcelona Activa, the governmental arm that helps entrepreneurs and startups in the city have appointed a new leader.
The new CEO, Sara Berbel, was appointed yesterday after the board of directors approved the decision.
The new director has been praised by many in social media the last two days, and it’s safe to say that many are pleased with having a woman at this vital position for Barcelona startups and innovation.
Fight unemployment and stimulate entrepreneurship
For the last 30 years Barcelona Activa has been critical in helping startups and entrepreneurs setting up in the city, now Berbel wants to take it further.
After being appointed as the new CEO, Berbel explained her most important tasks the next years to come:
“We will fight against unemployment and job insecurity, reduce social inequalities, expand entrepreneurial and corporate social responsibility perspective, and focus on the needs of citizens from the territorial proximity, always incorporating the perspective gender and social inclusion in all policies developed “
Governmental experience
Berbel is coming from the position as CEO and founder of Barcelona Empowerment Hub, and she also holds a PhD in Social Psychology from the University of Barcelona, where she also has taught for the last 20 years.
She has extensive experience from several governmental organizations, including the general director of Equal Opportunities in the Labor Department of the Catalan Government, the former president of the Catalan Institution for Women’s Affairs, and the former director of equality policies and social economy in relation to the social economy in Barcelona City Council.
However, you can also say that she is returning, as Berbel used to work at Barcelona Activa from in the late 90’s.
Julien says
“We will fight against unemployment and job insecurity, reduce social inequalities, expand entrepreneurial and corporate social responsibility perspective, and focus on the needs of citizens from the territorial proximity, always incorporating the perspective gender and social inclusion in all policies developed”\
Come on! What does that mean exactly? Sounds like politician bullshit!
What I need is a software which allows me to do a financial plan and apply to Enisa. I need to have free course when I want to figure out how to deal with the confusion that I have in my mind. And I need people to help me, challenge my business plan and ready to listen my dreams!
I think that the current team was doing an amazing job on that. I’m not Spanish but Barcelona Activa definitely help me to go from the idea to the project.
Rather than saying nothing in this article rather than a politician has been nominated to the board, I feel that It would be better to speak about the reality of entrepreneurship and give some credentials to what has been done so far!
So yeah…let’s take it further…
