Barcelona Mayor Xavier Trias is in Paris today to celebrate the kick off of the annual Salon du Livre, where Barcelona is the featured city guest, and meet with Parisian Mayor Bertrand Delanoë. The meeting will focus on a partnership between the two European capitals to increase the quality of life for their citizens.
First on the agenda, is the effort both capitals are making in the arena of Global Smart Cities. For years before Trias even took office, Barcelona was pumping resources into global alliances to accelerate Catalonia innovation. In addition, the talks touched on various programs aimed at urban development, housing, and cultural preservation.
The occasion also coincides with the recently announced high-speed rail service direct connection between French National Railways (SNCF) and Spain’s rail operator Renfe. The new route is scheduled to begin April 22nd, 2013 and will run between Paris and Barcelona with a commuter travel time of approximately 6 hours.
